Matt Young is an industry leader with over 25 years of experience in the allied health care sector. A graduate of the University of British Columbia, Matt put his Human Kinetics degree and passion for health & sport to use in his first start up company; Innovative Fitness. Matts body of work led to a National Top 40 Under 40 in 2006 & Provincial recognition in 2011.
In early 2010, Matt turned his focus to the not for profit sector where he founded a charity focused on supporting the development of physical literacy for youth. As the charity scaled nationally & internationally, Matt was challenged to create sustainable programs, products & services to support the development of physical literacy in community settings. These opportunities to serve grew from a growing recognition of Matts ability to make academic constructs relatable to a generalist audience. in 2016, along with business partner Steve Podborski, Matt unveiled his latest tool to support LTAD; The Personal Sport Record.
Matts affinity for all things active has led him from the varsity gridiron where he was a Varsity Football Conference All Star to the Sahara Desert to the Inca trails & Australian Outback. A two-time Ironman, ten-time marathon finisher and multi day adventure race competitor, his belief is where there is no challenge, there can be no adversity, hence authentic victory.
In my interview with Matt we learn about his journey from being a solo trainer who was trading time for money to systematizing his technique so that he could teach others the same. In doing so, he has been able to franchise his system into a nationwide gym. As one to never get complacent, we then dig into Matt's newer ventures from starting a charity to now serving the youth sports space. In an effort to stop the adultification of youth sports, Matt's latest mission is to help get kids back into youth sports!
